What’s Currently Shaping Home Design in Central NJ
The first month of 2025 is flying by! The new year is always a season for change — out with the old and in with the new, right? So, I tend to spend the month of January thinking about how the world of interiors will continue to evolve. Closing out 2024, I saw homeowners in Central New Jersey mixing modern style with regional vibes, like coastal charm and urban sophistication. Local trends have focused on comfort, personal touches, and sustainable choices.
Here, I’m sharing my predictions for some of the top interior design trends that will continue to shape room updates and full renovations in Central New Jersey homes in 2025.

Trend 1
Interiors for Mindfulness & Well-Being
In our current Age of Overwhelm, homes are becoming sanctuaries, and in 2025, the focus will be on creating luxurious yet comfortable environments that promote well-being and relaxation. For New Jersey homeowners, this means investing in spaces that feel as good as they look.

— Spa-Like Bathrooms
Bathrooms are evolving into wellness spaces, with more homeowners opting for spa-inspired designs. In 2025, expect to see larger showers with steam functions, soaking tubs, and even nature-inspired materials like stone and wood. Features like heated floors, soft lighting, and aromatherapy diffusers will turn the bathroom into a retreat from the stresses of daily life.
— Cozy Living Rooms
Comfort will continue to be key in living room design, with plush seating, oversized cushions, and layered textiles becoming popular. Designers are incorporating elements like soft throws, warm lighting, and calming colors to create spaces that invite relaxation and connection.
Trend 2
Balancing Personality and Purpose
Personal expression is taking center stage in interior design, with 2025 set to see a harmonious blend of minimalism and maximalism. Homeowners are moving away from rigid design rules and embracing more personalized, curated spaces that tell their unique stories — and I am here for it!

— Layered Textures and Patterns
Maximalism will continue to influence New Jersey homes in 2025, but with a more curated and thoughtful approach. Rather than overwhelming a space with numerous patterns and colors, designers will layer textures and patterns in a cohesive way. Think rich woven fabrics, geometric patterns, graphic wallpaper and artisan-crafted accents—all balanced with minimalist furniture to create a bold yet harmonious look.
— One-of-a-Kind Art and Decor
Incorporating personal touches into home decor is more important than ever. New Jersey homeowners are embracing custom art pieces, family heirlooms, and travel-inspired decor to reflect their own stories. 2025 will see more homeowners opting for one-of-a-kind pieces that make their homes feel truly unique. Custom-built furniture and local artisan-crafted decor are also on the rise, with an emphasis on supporting New Jersey’s own creative community.
Trend 3
Bold Color Palettes and Statement Walls
While neutral tones like beige, gray, and white have long been staples of modern design, 2025 will see the return of bold, vibrant colors. For New Jersey homes, this means a shift toward deeper, more saturated hues that bring warmth and energy into spaces.

— Earthy and Natural Tones
Building on the sustainability trend, homeowners will embrace earthy colors like terracotta, moss green, deep ocean blues, and warm ochres. These hues not only bring a sense of calm and connection to nature but also complement the state’s diverse landscape, from the Jersey Shore’s cool blues to the greenery of the Pine Barrens.
— Statement Walls
Accent walls will make a strong comeback in 2025. Rather than simple painted accent walls, expect to see creative approaches like textured wallpaper, plaster finishes, and wood paneling. For urban homes in places like Hoboken or Jersey City, murals and bold patterns will help transform small spaces into visually impactful rooms.
Trend 4
Multi-Functional and Flexible Spaces
The demand for flexibility in interior design is only growing, especially in New Jersey where many homes must balance work, family, and personal interests under one roof. In 2025, homeowners will continue to embrace adaptable spaces that serve multiple functions, without sacrificing style.

— Work-from-Home Solutions
With hybrid work models still prevalent, home offices will remain essential. However, rather than dedicating an entire room to work, many New Jersey homeowners are opting for cleverly designed multi-purpose spaces. These spaces serve as home offices during the day and cozy reading nooks or guest rooms when not in use. Expect to see flexible home features like convertible furniture and creative shelving solutions.
— Open Concept Evolves
While open concept living remains popular, there’s an ongoing shift toward more defined spaces within open floor plans. In 2025, we’ll see the use of dividers, movable walls, and strategic furniture placement to create zones within a larger living area. This approach allows for flexibility, making the space feel more connected and functional without the permanence of traditional walls.
Trend 5
Biophilic Design: Bringing the Outdoors In
The connection between nature and home design is stronger than ever, and in 2025, biophilic design is expected to continue gaining momentum. This design philosophy focuses on incorporating elements of the natural world into your home’s interior to boost well-being, reduce stress, and enhance productivity.

— Indoor Gardens and Greenery
Indoor plants are no longer just accessories—they’re becoming central to design schemes! For suburban Central New Jersey homes, particularly those with larger floor plans, expect to see more indoor gardens, green walls, and vertical planters that not only add visual interest but also improve indoor air quality.
— Natural Light
Maximizing natural light will be a key priority for 2025 interiors. Larger windows, skylights, and glass doors will help open up spaces and create a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. For homes with less natural light, expect to see designers using reflective materials and light-enhancing strategies to make rooms feel brighter and more connected to the outside.
— Natural Textures
Beyond plants, biophilic design extends to natural textures. In 2025, materials like rattan, wicker, and raw wood will be paired with soft, organic fabrics like linen, cotton, and wool. These textures will not only add depth to a room but also evoke the natural environment, enhancing the sensory experience of the space.
Trend 6
Emphasis on Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Design
Sustainability will continue to dominate interior design in 2025, but with even more innovation. New Jersey homeowners are increasingly prioritizing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient designs, both as a nod to the environment and for long-term cost savings.

— Sustainable Materials
Expect to see a surge in the use of reclaimed wood, recycled metals, and eco-friendly textiles. New Jersey homes, particularly in areas like Monmouth County with a focus on nature and shoreline living, are gravitating toward materials that reflect both sustainability and a natural, coastal aesthetic. Homeowners in areas like Princeton and Holmdel are embracing sustainable materials like reclaimed wood and natural stone. These materials, along with cork and bamboo, will be popular choices for flooring and countertops.
— Energy Efficiency and Smart Homes
Smart home technology will play a big role in 2025, with more homeowners opting for energy-efficient systems that integrate with sustainable living. Expect to see energy-saving lighting solutions like LED fixtures, solar panels, and smart thermostats becoming standard in many New Jersey homes. Beyond functionality, the sleek, minimalistic design of these products will seamlessly blend with modern interiors.
